Multi County Water Supply Corporation has been notified by our supplier, City of Hamilton, that Upper Leon Municipal Water District has begun the process of changing the primary disinfectant in our water system from chloramines to free chlorine.  This system treatment, often referred to as a “burnout”, will continue until October 2024.  At that time the disinfectant will revert back to free chlorine to chloramines.  In this process of going from one method to the other and then back again, you may notice differences in taste and odor that are typically associated with, or described as, a bleachy or chlorine smell.  There are no adverse health effects associated with this, but there is a possibility that those who are most sensitive to changes in taste and odor will detect those changes the most.  While these nuisances exist, they will be temporary.  Please be assured that these measures are being taken while this “window of opportunity” exists, to improve our water system’s integrity and will be a step leading to overall improved water quality as we go deeper into the summer months ahead.

Multi County Water Supply Corporation personnel will work diligently to take the necessary steps to minimize problems and concerns.  Questions about this process regarding these matters may be directed to Denton Dick at (254) 865-2269.
